Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Kyiv to talk infrastructure, drawing a strong reaction from those who feel that he’s been lacking in his job at home.
The former mayor of South Bend, IN traveled across the pond as the latest giveaway of tens of billions more in U.S. taxpayer money to Ukraine remains stalled in Congress with President Joe Biden and Democrats insisting that it be included in a package for aid to Israel as support for Zelensky’s costly war has waned with lawmakers and the public.
The competency-challenged diversity hire who has been criticized over his lackadaisical approach to serious issues with domestic infrastructure, not the least being the derailment of a train carrying toxic chemicals in East Palestine, Ohio last year, touted his meeting with the shrinking Ukrainian leader on X, formerly known as Twitter, on Wednesday.
This advisor will be in Kyiv to provide technical assistance on project delivery as part of the country’s rebuilding efforts. It’s one of countless ways the U.S. continues to stand with the people of Ukraine for the long haul and ensure its connection to the world. — Secretary Pete Buttigieg (@SecretaryPete) November 8, 2023
“This advisor will be in Kyiv to provide technical assistance on project delivery as part of the country’s rebuilding efforts,” wrote Mayor Pete. “It’s one of countless ways the U.S. continues to stand with the people of Ukraine for the long haul and ensure its connection to the world.”
Buttigieg’s focus on Ukraine instead of the country that he is being paid to work was slammed by X users, some of who wondered why he would be wasting time and resources abroad despite decaying infrastructure in the USA.
No idea how this helps our train derailments, TSA and Air Traffic Controller Shortages, and has such a small fraction of an impact on our global supply chain that a phone call could have done the same job. No idea why head of Transportation needs a trip half way round the world… — Rangers71 (@LogisticsATX) November 8, 2023
Pete Buttigieg is inexplicably in Ukraine. Democrats like Buttigieg and Randi Weingarten treating Ukraine like a cosplay tourism hotspot is not helping their case for the urgency of more support. https://t.co/vBzJdAmKoK — Matt Whitlock (@mattdizwhitlock) November 8, 2023

Any chance we can get some of that infrastructure over here with our money? — Dr. Platimus (@SWGaspar) November 8, 2023
Buttigieg is the *SECRETARY OF TRANSPORTATION* He has absolutely NO business being in Ukraine — Nick Sortor (@nicksortor) November 8, 2023
I wasn’t aware he was the transportation secretary of Ukraine. — Devon Gardner (@DevonRGardner) November 8, 2023
“As part of the Biden-Harris administration’s steadfast commitment to Ukraine, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is visiting Kyiv to meet with Ukrainian government leaders. The discussions will focus on advancing Ukraine’s economic recovery and efforts to return Ukraine to economic self-sufficiency, including via supporting investments in transportation infrastructure and reforms that will support a return to private-sector led growth,” the U.S. Department of Transportation announced in a press release.
